Who we are
The Save ecoENERGY Coalition is a national group of industry associations, environmental organizations, small businesses and others representing more than 1,600 manufacturers, wholesalers, suppliers, home renovation contractors and energy auditors across Canada.
Mission statement
We call for a Five-Part Home Energy Action Plan that enables the private sector to create jobs and grow the market for home energy saving retrofits without the continued need for government incentive programs.
- Part 1. Three-year renewal of home retrofit incentive programs
- Part 2. Transition to next generation home energy rating system
- Part 3. Universal labelling of homes at time-of-sale
- Part 4. Innovative financing
- Part 5. Private sector investment

Canada needs to Save Energy First
You can help.
Canada is about to spend billions on new oil sands projects, pipelines, nuclear and fossil-fuel power stations, hydroelectric dams, solar projects, and wind farms. But as we prepare to generate more energy, it makes sense to save energy first.
We need to get serious about energy efficiency.
Please send a Save Energy First message to Canadian decision makers, using our automated form.

Coalition history
The Save ecoENERGY Coalition formed in March 2011, in response to the end of the ecoENERGY Retrofit-Homes program, and related provincial home retrofit programs, on March 31, 2011.
Coalition supporters sent a series of letters to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, provincial premiers and other Canadian decision makers. An archive of these letters can be found here.
In July 2011, the Harper government announced an eight-and-a-half month extension of the ecoENERGY Retrofit program, expiring March 31, 2012. Coalition supporters applauded this $400 million extension of the ecoENERGY program, but expressed concern that this short extension was not enough time to help the home energy savings industry transition to self-sufficiency. An archive of media coverage related to the Harper government’s extension of the ecoENERGY program can be found here.
Home Energy Action Plan
The Save ecoENERGY Coalition is calling on Canadian governments to implement a five-part Home Energy Action Plan to create jobs and grow the market for home energy retrofits.
Immediate action is required to make this Home Energy Action Plan happen. Canadian governments need to take the first step by committing, in their upcoming 2012 budgets, to a three-year renewal of home retrofit incentive programs, including:

A three-year renewal of home retrofit incentive programs (Part 1) is a critical first step to building a solid foundation for private sector growth of Canada’s home energy saving marketplace (Parts 2 through 5).
The Save ecoENERGY Coalition recently launched the Save Energy First campaign to build support for this Home Energy Action Plan and to help Canadians send a message to decision makers that it’s time to put energy efficiency at the top of Canada’s energy agenda.
About ecoENERGY Retrofit
The Government of Canada's ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes program provides homeowner grants of up to $5,000 to encourage owners of existing homes to make smart energy retrofit decisions that will result in significant energy savings, more comfortable living spaces and a cleaner environment. Many provinces offer matching or complementary incentives.
The current ecoENERGY Retrofit initiative is scheduled to expire on March 31, 2012.
