Five-Part Home Energy Action Plan

Create jobs in all communities across Canada

Local jobs

Home retrofits create local jobs in every community, riding and region when families improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

These jobs are made in Canada. They stay in Canada and cannot be off-shored.

  • Tradespeople, administrators, retail
  • Manufacturing, wholesale, support services

More spending generates more jobs

Home retrofits help families reduce their energy bills for the long run. These long-term savings keep more money circulating within the community—money that would otherwise exit the community to pay for energy.

More money in families’ pockets every year means more money spent at local businesses. This increased spending creates even more local jobs:

  • Restaurants, retail, renovations
  • Personal and professional services

Home retrofits create jobs, now and over the long term, in all communities across Canada.

Action plan

To create jobs in all communities, we recommend a Five-Part Home Energy Action Plan:

Part 1 A three-year government commitment to continue home retrofit incentive programs creates jobs immediately.
Parts 2-5 A solid platform for private sector growth of the home energy saving industry creates jobs without the continued need for government incentive programs.
